Tangled Webs

FRIENDS, FAMILY, ADDICTION AND NEED FORM A TANGLED WEB OF CONNECTION

May 9-10, Readers Theatre Repertory examines the binding lines of relationship that connect us all in Tangled Webs, featuring The Broken Leash by Dalene Young, The Grand Design by Susan Miller, and Penguin Blues by Ethan Phillips. All are directed by Bob Martin.

Martin was searching for stories to end the season on a personal note. “Each of these plays addresses how we are connected,” he says. Whether awkward, flawed, clumsy and sometimes cruel, Martin says the folks in the tales are all, in their own way, “trying to address their need for love.”

Staging Dalene Young’s work is a special way to finish the year, Martin says. Young is a favorite of Readers Theatre Rep, and her plays and performances have been found on the RTR stage several times.

The company will stage its season ender at The First Christian Church of Portland instead of its theatre home, Blackfish Gallery, due to an unusually large exhibition in the space. “We’ll be back at Blackfish in September for our 14th season,” Martin says, “so mark September 12th and 13th on your calendar now!”
