STREET STORIES: HOMELESS HEARTS AND MINDS
November 13-14 2015, Readers Theatre Repertory brings in the holiday season by reminding us that every night, about 4,000 people sleep in Portland’s streets and homeless shelters. Street Stories: Homeless Hearts and Minds is an original play that the company created in 2002, and just is just as timely today as when it first premiered thirteen years ago.
“We felt it was time to bring this back,” says Street Stories by Mary McDonald Lewis.” Director Bob Martin agrees: “It’d be great to say that a problem we were addressing back in 2002 isn’t with us any more, but that’s clearly not the case. That’s why it’s so important for us to do this piece right now.” Taken from interviews with homeless people, Street Stories is described by Martin as alternately “uplifting” and “heartbreaking. These are, after all, people without a home.”
The cast includes Mario Castro, Jerry Foster, Skeeter Greene, Eli Gorby, Suzanne Kitchens, Katie Linder, Eli Molloy, Chris Porter and Dalene Young
10% of the proceeds of the show will go to Sisters of the Road, an organization that helps take care of the homeless. For more information visit their website at http://sistersoftheroad.org/
