WHAT: MOLIERE IN LOVE
WHEN: Friday & Saturday February 15-16 8PM
Moliere in Love is Readers Theatre Repertory’s heart-shaped February 15-16 production, featuring The Jealous Husband, Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed, and The Flying Doctor. Wendy Wilcox directs, and she says the bubble and tang of the world of Moliere makes his work ideal for Valentine’s Day. “Moliere is like champagne – deliciously delirious, with both sweetness and bite.”
The Jealous Husband starts at a gallop, with suspicious Barbouillé claiming “I’m the unluckiest husband in the world” when it comes to his wife Angélique. He cannot kill her – “they’d hang me for it!” – and there the story begins. Two Precious Maidens is Moliere at his skeptical best, skewering those who would rise above their stations with hilarious results. False twins and true love is the sweet confection found in The Flying Doctor.Wilcox says Moliere in Love is the perfect Valentine’s date night. “These plays are two chocolate bon bons for our audience,” she says. “High style and belly laughs, all wrapped up in a tasty one-hour treat.”
