Revenge and Redemption is the theme for Readers Theatre Repertory’s December 14-15 production, featuring a specially-adapted version of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale. Wendy Wilcox directs the adaptation, created by her and playwright David Berkson.
“David and I have streamlined the story to suit RTR’s one-hour model,” says Wilcox. “In just a bit over sixty minutes, we’re bringing you the heart – and the blood and guts and betrayal – of the play.”
Both Berkson and Wilcox bring long experience with the Bard to the work, with Wilcox a founding member of an all-female Shakespeare company in the Bay Area, and Berkson an actor and educator for two other Shakespeare organizations in that region.
“This is a dark, rich story with heartbreaking jealousy and transcendent forgiveness,” Wilcox says. “Focusing on the core of the story makes this a potent, powerful tale.”
The cast features Hadley Boyd, Ted deChatelet, Jason England, Elizabeth Gibbs, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Chris Porter, Tom Slater, and Patrick Tangredi
