Wrestling with Faith on Winter’s Dark Nights

Readers Theatre Repertory explores the hopeless and the hopeful with its December production of Lee Blessing’sTwo Rooms, for a production themed “Darkness, Dawn.”

Director Matthew Martin passed up on the traditional Christmas fare to focus on an idea he believes lies at the heart of the season.

Two Rooms finds a war hostage and his stateside wife in the worst situation imaginable, fighting their own fears and struggling to keep hope alive,” he says. “The setting is timely, and the story is timeless — how do we keep our faith in the face of all evidence to the contrary?”

Martin hopes that in this decidedly non-seasonal tale that the audience will find the very essence of the holiday spirit.

The cast featured Christian Gervasi, Christy Hernquist, Andrew Hickman and Suzan Zeitlin.
