On February 9th and 10th, Readers Theatre Repertory explores the dark and funny side of love in an evening themed “Love BITES,” featuring “Hag” by Brian Rooney, and “Learning Experience At Elderhostel” and “A Year Of Grace“, both by John A. Donnelly.
Director Matthew Martin wanted a sort of noir valentine for the February show. “Let’s face it,” says Martin, “love feels really good, but it can really suck.” Martin says wisdom from the film “Princess Bride” informed his choice: “As the Man in Black says, ‘Life is pain… anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.’ In all three of these plays, people are in love, but getting to that point and admitting it is not always easy… or possible.”
Two local, produced playwrights contributed plays to the evening. Both John A. Donnelly and Brian Rooney have had works staged at RTR and elsewhere within and outside of the region. “We’re always on the lookout for what we call ‘First Works,'” says Martin, “and we’re excited about sharing these plays with the public.”
The cast includes Brad Bolchunos, Christy Hernquist, Bob Martin, Mooch Martin and Doreen O’Skea, among others.
