On October 14 and 15 2005, a ghastly blast from the past raised goosebumps at Reader Theatre Repertory, with a program themed Quoth the Raven.Edgar Allen Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado was staged, along with The Monkey’s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs.
“Victorian horror is restrained, complex, and damned scary,” says director Mary McDonald-Lewis. “These are tales not of chainsaws and butcher knives, but of the darkness that lies at the heart of the depraved.” McDonald-Lewis was especially interested in the theme because no matter how monstrous Victorian characters are, there is something we recognize of ourselves there. “his is no Freddie or Chuckie. This is an uncle, or the guy in front of the market, or even ourselves, in the right circumstances.”
Cast included Nurmi Husa, Randy Paterson, Josh Rengert, Chrisse Roccaro, Rick Sanders and Tracy Winters
