On May 14th and 15th 2004, Readers Theater Repertory will wind up its third season with a smile. Spring Fever is the theme, with Twinkle, Twinkle, by Ernest Thompson, andThymus Vulgaris, by Lanford Wilson chosen to do the job by director Bob Martin.
Twinkle, Twinkle, by the author of On Golden Pond, features the comedic confusion resulting when a bored housewife discovers her favorite soap opera hero at her door, after penning him racy fan mail. Thymus Vulgaris introduces us to trailer park resident Ruby and her daughter Evelyn. Evelyn’s a genial hooker engaged to Solly, the “Grapefruit King,” tempted by the hunky cop who’s just showed up on the trailer’s front steps.
“Both stories are comedies about what happens when passion crashes with reality,” said Martin. “It’s like when Spring finally hits Portland, and everyone is half nuts. That’s what makes these two tales ideal for our May show.”
Cast members included Nicholas Burilini-Price, Skeeter Greene, Pauline Johnson, Jamie Miller, and Jennifer Neiderloh.
This was the last production of the company’s third season, which both RTR and Blackfish Gallery have deemed another success. The gallery’s artist/owners are among the growing audience, and Blackfish is excited about hosting the fourth season there.
