The Raven & The Tell-Tale Heart

and other Tales of Terror by Edgar Allan Poe

Long Poe
Performed by Randy Patterson
Adapted & Directed by David Berkson

Celebrate Halloween with the granddaddy of horror, the incomparable Edgar Allen Poe.  The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Casque of Amantillado are just some of the creepy classics you’ll hear in their entirety this October 11 & 12, 2019 at RTR.  Performed by veteran Portland actor, Randy Patterson, this hour long evening promises to keep you on the edge of your padded folding chair.  “Poe has such a singular voice,” says show director David Berkson, “the most chilling performances of his stories – at least to my ear – are the ones performed by a single actor.  And Randy Patterson’s the best: such an amazing voice grounded in all the psychological complexity and darkness at the heart of Poe.  Get ready for a night of terror.”

The Raven & The Tell-Tale Heart runs Friday and Saturday, October 11 & 12 at Blackfish Gallery, 420 NW 9th Ave in Portland.  The show starts at 8PM and runs about an hour.  Admission is $10.00, cash or check only.  Reservations are strongly encouraged, and walk-ins should arrive by 7:30P.  All unclaimed reserved seats will be released to walk-ins at 7:55P sharp.  For information and ticket reservations: 971-266-3787, or readerstheatrerep@gmail.com.

Readers Theatre Repertory was founded in 2001 to tell “Small stories with big ideas at their heart,” tales that alternately amuse, confront, assuage and inspire.  Using one-act plays as the text, the company focuses on intimate human relationships to explore universal themes.  Through these stories and through educational outreach and affordable ticket prices, RTR is committed to developing, expanding and diversifying Portland’s theatrical audiences.  The company’s mainstage season is at Blackfish Gallery in Portland’s Pearl District.

A NOTE ABOUT TICKET PRICES

At RTR we’re committed to producing theatre that’s both excellent and affordable. Since our inception, we had not raised our ticket prices for 16 years. Two years ago we  raised the price to $10 per ticket. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause our patrons, we’re confident that they will understand that such a step is necessary to keep up with the rising costs of production.

I was introduced to both Brendan Behan and Reader’s Theatre last night, and will be a regular for now on. It was enchanting — like sitting around a living room with family and friends, listening to the local wit on the radio. The only thing missing was the Guinness! Eiran go bragh, Reader’s Repertory! Thank you!
